We have the power to transform our public schoolsot through government mandates or the newest eacher-proof� text series, and not through what many educators call est practices.� Our schools can be transformed by applying Waldorf-inspired practices into the public-school setting. Rudolf Steiner had a special interest in the education of children and saw schooling as a way to achieve social renewal. Waldorf students do not learn in a fragmentary ways, nor is the curriculum prepackaged. Goral shows how teachers can bring many of the benefits of Waldorf education into the public setting, with remarkable results.

Mary Barr Goral, Ph.D., began her career in education more than thirty years ago. After teaching in the public schools in Bloomington, Illinois, for eleven years, she received both her master's and doctorate in curriculum studies and math education from Indiana University. Dr. Goral doctoral dissertation, ransformational Possibilities of Schooling: A Study of Waldorf Education,� is a qualitative research report conducted at the Rudolf Steiner School in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Dr. Goral has taught in higher education for eleven years and is currently an Associate Professor in the School of Education at Bellarmine University in Louisville, Kentucky, where she teaches math and science methods courses to elementary education majors and directs the master's program with an emphasis in Waldorf Education.
