中文說明	※ 美國國家圖書獎 ※ 入選《美國人》雜誌“新英格蘭100本經典童書” ※ 被美國《出版者周刊》評為“所有時代最暢銷童書” ※ 入選日本兒童書研究會繪本研究部編《圖畫書·為了孩子的500冊》圖畫書也可以描繪一個人波瀾萬丈的一生嗎？　　芭芭拉·庫尼告訴我們：可以。上個世紀八十年代，當已經步入了遲暮之年的芭芭拉·庫尼第二次贏得了凱迪克獎金獎之後，她突然決定改變自己。她不再為別人的文字配畫了，開始創作帶有濃厚個人色彩的圖畫書自傳三部曲。第一本是《花婆婆》，第二本是講述一個小男孩長大之後還總是回到他成長的緬因州小島的故事的《小島男孩》（Island Boy，1988），第三本是講述一個小女孩追尋她的藝術之夢的故事的《海蒂和激浪》（Hattie and the Wild Waves，1990）。這些作品中都有她的影子，或是她一生的追求。她毫不掩飾地說：“在我所有的作品中，《花婆婆》、《小島男孩》和《海蒂和激浪》最貼近我的心靈，堪稱我的自傳。 “她還說，“自從創作《花婆婆》後的那十年，我已經創作出生命中最美好的東西了。” 《花婆婆》直譯應該是《魯菲絲小姐》，一個倒敘的故事—— 當魯菲絲小姐成了一位風燭殘年的老婆婆時，她告訴年輕的敘述者，許多年以前，當她還是一個名叫艾麗絲的小女孩的時候，她曾經答應過爺爺三件事：第一件事是去很遠的地方旅行，第二件事是住在海邊，第三件事是做一件讓世界變得更美麗的事。前兩件事不難，難的是第三件事。直到有一年的春天，她喜出望外地發現山坡上開滿了一大片藍色、紫色和粉紅色的魯冰花時，她知道什麼是她要做的第三件事了。整個夏天，她的口袋裡都裝滿了花種子，她把它們撒在了鄉間的小路邊、教堂後面，撒在了空地和高牆下面。到了第二年的春天，那些種子同時都開花了……
