魯道夫•斯坦納（Rudolf Steiner,1861-1925），社會改革家、藝術家、教育家，開創了名為“人類智慧學”（簡稱“人智學”，Anthroposohy）的精神科學。華德福教育創始人。
魯道夫•斯坦納出生於奧地利一個小村莊，他從小酷愛讀書，尤其喜愛哲學。18歲進入維也納技術學院接受高等教育，並為一位十歲殘障男孩當私人教師，並成功將其引入正常學校，由此他對殘障兒童教育、醫學都有了深入研究。而後他開始對歌德、席勒的著作產生濃厚興趣，1880到1897年，他來到德國魏瑪，在那裡取得哲學博士學位，並出版了《自由的哲學》一書（1894年），奠定了精神科學活動的教育基礎。1931年，他創建了國際性的人智學社團，其中心在瑞士多納赫的歌德大殿。
斯坦納博士非常關注社會及民生問題，一戰爆發後，他提出三元社會結構的社會革新主張，雖由於未找到強大的支援而擱置，但人智學運動仍活躍著，在農耕、醫藥、建築、治療教育、經濟、藝術活動中，越來越多的人聚集在一起，以謀求社會創新。這也成為世界性華德福教育運動的種子。

為何今日的人們悠游恍惚，好像失去了他們的根 ?

最重要的是他們不知如何思考，對自己的一生，對自己一生該做甚麼也完全沒有概念。

是1824年8月的幾天時間裡，魯道夫．斯坦納（Rudolf Steiner）博士對即將在英國開辦華德福學校的教師們做了一系列的演講。內容涉及兒童的成長和發展規律、教育的本質、教師本身的德行品質才是影響兒童的關鍵因素、讓孩子學到如何做一個實在的工作者等等。對關注兒童身、心、靈整體的華德福教育體系做了介紹。
